Tips for a shorter ladder
Work backwards. POOP's neighbors are few: POOL, POOR, PROP, PLOP, POMP, HOOP, LOOP and COOP. Aim for one of them.
Get the double O early. Most short routes lock in the OO in the middle first, then fix the P's.
Count the letters that differ. You need at least that many steps — if par is higher, a detour is unavoidable.
Vowel swaps are cheap. Switching A, E, I, O or U often opens up new paths.

How do you play Poople?
Pick one letter of the current word and swap it for another so you get a new real word — COAT can become COOT, but not CAOT. Repeat until the word is POOP. Letters never move position, and you can't reuse a word you've already played. On your phone, tap a tile to choose which letter to change; on a computer, just type.
What does par mean in Poople?
Par is the fewest steps it takes to reach POOP using everyday words. Finish in par for a perfect score. If you know a rarer word that skips a step, you can even beat par and score a birdie.

When does a new Poople puzzle come out?
Every day at 08:00 UTC — midnight Pacific time in winter (1 AM in summer). After you finish, a countdown shows exactly how long until the next one.
Can I play more than one Poople a day?
Yes. The daily puzzle is once a day so everyone shares the same challenge, but Poople Unlimited deals endless random ladders, and the archive has every past daily puzzle.
Which words are allowed?
Any real 4-letter English word from a Scrabble-grade dictionary of 3,898 words — plurals like CATS and past tenses like BLED included. Names, abbreviations and slurs are not accepted. Par and hints only ever use everyday words.
Is Poople free? Do I need an account?
Poople is completely free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. Your streak and stats are saved in your own browser, so they stay private — and stay on that device.
Does sharing my result spoil the puzzle?
No. The share grid shows one row per step: 🟫 for letters already matching POOP and ⬜ for the rest. Friends see how you closed in on POOP, never the words you used.
How is Poople different from Wordle?
Wordle asks you to guess a hidden word. In Poople the destination is always POOP — the puzzle is finding the shortest route there. It's a word ladder, a puzzle Lewis Carroll popularized as “Doublets” in 1879.
